A credit report site is unable produce my credit history because I had no credit even though I had a debit card issued by my bank for at least two years.
An almost unending stream of flow of credit card offers from Capital One, which I ignore. (I’m afraid that I would somehow misuse it in one way or another.)
I seem to have bad luck in getting jobs from school during the semester, either due to bad timing or looking in the wrong places.
I spent most of my checking on half the textbooks I bought from my college bookstore, none of which could be found online, except maybe in a marketplace.
Now I found out that I could save a great deal online on the other half of the books I need, for about half the price, Unfortunately, I don’t have enough in my checking, and I wanted to order my books asap, as the semester already started. (I was also afraid of losing my order.) Then there was this "bill me later" option and I thought, "Great, once my mom helps me deposit in a few days, I can pay by the end of the week!" And Wham! "Bill me later" was unable to process.
Feh. Bloody brilliant. And my mom was supposed to help me deposit today, er, well, yesterday
I apologize if there were a couple of points that didn’t seem to relate to this. The point is, how the heck am I supposed to build my credit if all the credit lenders would do is deny me or anybody in a similar situation? I’ve also heard that building credit is getting harder than before, especially those without credit like me. It’s seriously driving me insane.
I’ll thank you for your time. And please, don’t give all that "I am a lender" kind of crap. Nobody needs that.
It just seems to me that there have been some people who obviously doesn’t understand that I don’t like nonsense kind of answers, like the ones Mini and Oman posted. Please, don’t just post links. Explain them, personal experiences at best. Thank you.
Ted: You bring up a good point. Thanks! I haven’t really thought about it before, but now that I think about, it makes sense.
As to the credit card offers that I get (Capital One mostly, and Discovery, recently), would that be a good a idea to take up one of their offers? What do you guys think? Which card do you guys recommend for college kid like me, all school and no work?

Alot of banks u can get a credit card to start getting credit . like u pay 100.00 and they will give you a credit card for 500-700 to try to build your credit up .BUT some banks might want u to have an account with them for awhile
If you are an active student you can apply for a college visa card through a local bank. They don’t expect college students to have credit or much of an income & are much more easily approved. It is worth a try.
If for any reason you can’t do that try getting a secured card. With those you send in a cashiers check or money order for the amount of credit you want on the card & they hold your money in an interest bearing account till you either cancel the card, or establish enough of a good payment history to qualify for an unsecured card.
Then your deposit money is returned to you.
Credit reports have to do with loans. A debit card takes money from your bank account; no loan is involved. So, using a debit card has nothing to do with establishing a credit history.
