Creating a simple website for a small business?

Hi all,

I have a task at work to create a simple website for a moving business.

Just a site that has the contact info and a little background about the company.

Does anyone have any advice about domain names, hosting, etc?

I’m new to this =)

A friend suggested godaddy and brinkster, are these simple to use for a newbie like me?

Thanks!!

Office Live Small Business from Microsoft is right up your alley. It helps you take care of everything from registering the domain to hosting the site to even building it via their templates. Take a look for yourself at the Office Live Small business homepage: http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/

The gallery has examples of sites built with the service which can give you a better understanding of the service.

Building a website isnt really for new comers, you do need some knowledge, but thios knowledge is easy to find.

Your find a lot of "easy build" website online, but being a designer myself many of my clients have had serious issues.

GoDaddy is okay, but i found is over complicated, but; again, it is quite cheap.

Heart Internet is by far the easiest to operate.

FastHost is a good hosting service, as is HeartInternet. I keep mine on a VPS (virtual private server) with WebFusion, who have been very helpful.

If you want something simple good cheap, aimed towards small business and and easy to use microsoft small business live, its 15 dollars per year to have a domain name and hosting…they have a site builder so you don’t need to have any website building experience…I left a link below…godaddy costs a bunch more and so does brinkster…so I would recommend microsoft small business live, and the godaddy site builder isn’t the best out there….hope I helped!

If I were you i’d use hostmonster for the hosting and godaddy for the domain. I use these two together and they’re both great. Hostmonster has great support (live phone support) and quick linux based servers. Godaddy … well… actually I dont have a lot of insight into how good godaddy is in comparison to other registrars, because i’ve not used another in years, but they seem to be pretty cheap and it only takes 20 minutes or so to get a domain name set up.

For the design I’d suggest either taking a short HTML tutorial (its easy, dont worry) and using notepad, or using adobe dreamweaver, though there are a lot of good HTML editors out there.

Do you have programming knowledge? If so, GoDaddy is very easy to use, just need to upload the files and your good to go. I have not heard of brinkster, but I bet they are the same. If you know how to use FTP programs, it will make uploading the site even easier, as most sites like those 2 will have ftp access.
