I have a small internet business selling Avian Fashions bird diapers & other bird clothing, as well as Beverage Wear from Dressed to Chill. I have a store, but not many people see it on the internet and advertising is very expensive. I advertise on eBay, and enjoy Ebay very much, but the overhead cost is high. I am trying to figure out how to get the most exposure without paying so much? If you can help me, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Because avian clothing is a *highly* specialized market, in your position I would try direct marketing to bird rescues, pet stores, veterinarians, zoos, and so on. Send some direct emails, make some phone calls, mail a few flyers or catalogs, and if a potential customer wants to see a demonstration, then be prepared to drive a few suits out to them. Start with local stores and organizations, with the idea being that their sales will support your efforts to reach outward. Internet marketing is cheap, but usually you get what you pay for. It’s best used in concert with old-fashioned legwork.
I just think that’s it’s such an unusual item that on a place like eBay, buyers were already looking for it. I can’t imagine a lot of people find it by accident and then make a purchase. You’ll have to seek out your client base on this and make them aware that this product exists.
Promoting your business online is not that expensive as you think it is.
Online or Internet Marketing is one of the convenient and cost- effective way of promoting your business.
There are several ways to promote your business online. Search Engine Optimization or SEO is one of the effective and most popular Internet Marketing strategy. You can use link building strategies for your Internet Marketing campaign. Social network sites such as Facebook, Multiply, MySpace and alike can be your option. Make these social communities as your gateway in introducing or promoting your products or services.
Article Writing and Article Submissions, and directory listings can be one of your options. Internet Marketing is not only about promoting your website, it is also about partnership and being visible on search engines.
You can create your own Internet Marketing campaign or have someone help you. You can learn the basics through tutorials and online resources available.
why not try to build your own website and get your business promoted and exposed through on page and off page internet marketing like:
- website design
- quality content writing
- article submissions in article sites or blog sites
- directory submission
- forum posting
- blog commenting
- joining social networks
- social bookmarking
- link baiting
- buzz marketing
- creating squeeze or lead pages
- creating your own communities in social sites
- updating your website
these definitely cost less. hope that helps.
If you do not have a website, and you believe that our children are our future feel free to join my site free and advertise there. right now it is free but when i get the site completed i will be charging. I also have a yahoo group that is growing quite nicely. thanks in advance,

I’m not sure sorry.
Think about building a Squidoo lens. It’s free and several people market their products on Squidoo. If you promote your lens and move up, you will get some good exposure and will eventually be indexed so you come up for your key items on the major search engines. We use Squidoo for information pages, but lots of entrepreneurs sell on Squidoo.
If you have a small business there is not much you can do about exposure unless you partner up with bigger businesses and as far as overhead goes internet doesn’t incur any except for the website cost (assuming you are the one running it). The best way to save money would be to increase efficiency of the business like cutting cost and enjoy economies of scale the biggest area you can do this would probably be your logistics segment (stock keeping, ordering and such) and as far as advertising goes you can maybe get your local pet stores to agree to let you put fliers on their windows or let them promote it to their customers.
You need to think about your clientele and ask yourself questions like "where are my customers most likely to be? what type of people are they?" if you figure these things out then you could narrow down where and what type of ads you should have.
