Is it difficult to get a merchant account in order to accept credit card orders for an online business?

Can you recommend any great companies I could use to obtain a merchant account? What is the criteria companies use to issue or deny a merchant account to online stores? Thank you.

Paypal offers this type of service

You must have a business paypal account setup

they are much cheaper (in fee's etc) than the normal merchant account providers

ps: I have used them for my online company and have NO PROBLEMS

depends on if your business is high risk. There are companies that do high risk…check netbilling out they are pretty easy to get an account with.

If credit or high risk business is not an issue then check out:

    SEE ABOUT USING PAYPAL

your regular business bank will handle this.

because fraudulent charges can be returned several months later, banks require an ongoing business relationship with reasonable credit standing and profitability before opening a merchant account for credit cards.

the alternative is a payment service such as paypal.
