I just opened a business, and I want to be able to run credit cards manually. I do a gutter business, we go to homes and do peoples gutters, and then write down their credit card information, and then I want to be able to charge it. Where can I do this? That is not super expensive.

I can help you with that. As long as your business is based in the U.S. and you have a U.S. checking account. I can set-up an account with either a ‘virtual terminal’, where you would get your customer’s credit card information and then go home and log-on to a secure website to enter your customer’s payment information. Or you can call in the credit card information through an automated 800 number, this way the card is immediately charged. If you have any questions, you can call me directly at (888) 729-3539 x250 or via email: jsolarte@transfirst.com.
Do you have a business account with a bank? If not, open one, and they can get you set up for credit card payments.
Banks are often the best. They have the lowest rates out there (and not too bad in terms of hidden fees).
If you can’t get one from a bank, Costco’s merchant account offers good rates.
Here is a site that compares various merchant accounts from various providers including rates and fees

I would set up a "dial pay" account. This is a merchant processing account that allows you to call in and get the card approved while you are at the customer site. It would also allow you to manually swipe a credit card receipt onsite.
Be aware that you will not receive the lowest rate possible for credit card transactions if you are not sliding the card through an actual terminal. The rates that many processors will quote you are the "discount" rates for standard card present transactions. Find out what the "card not present" transactions cost and make your way from there. You should see rates between 2% and 2.5% for your card assortment.
